Occupation or war?

Words

In the recent issue of Warrior of the Light, issue 169, Paulo Coelho writes: “The war is now entering its 6th year, ...”

Is this still a war? Are we looking at a war or at an occupation, and does the difference matter? Should Americans be asking the question whether the war should end, or whether the occupation should end?

George W. Bush announced the end of combat operations on May 1, 2003. From a political/strategic point of view, the word occupation seems to better describe the situation today. But regardless of what you call it, I guess the killing on the streets looks much the same. There is armed conflict. There is violence. 6 years.

Paulo Coelho: “Thank you for revealing to the world the enormous gulf that exists between the decisions made by those in power and the wishes of the people.”

Barack Obama's Plan: “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months.”
